Artists, Scientists & Thinkers

Posted - By | Leave a comment

I was talking to a friend today and actually decided to follow through some of the millions of t-shirt designs we joke about… but only leave it there (in the funny conversation realm). I was justifying my depressive poetry with the excuse of needing to balance my prolific artistic tendencies with sentimental bullcrap.

I said everyone who is a genius is either crazy, sick, or autista (an “autist,” but in Spanish sounds better).

This first guy is pretty neat. Obvious reference to Albert Einstein… the image of the messy philosopher. I didn’t assign a specific illness from the ones described bellow… but I believe scientists tend to be associated more with autism. You be the judge.

This guy is the first one I did. The first thing I think about artists is mashed brains… so, there you go. I didn’t mention before the little detail with the restrain jacket, a pretty neat lait motif! The font I used was Futura bold… and quite altered I must say.

This “thinker” is not Ghandi or Freud… but I did find weird goaties to be near the chins of stereotypical philosophers. I’m pleased with the “mona lisa” eyebrow effect lol. This group might be the one I identify myself the most with… the one whose talent is just to think and give opinions. Hmm, anyone want to employ a thinker and have her do just that? Hmmm, I guess that’s called “being a professor.”

Anyway, basically that’s that… yet something tells me this might not be the last we see from these little guys.

A long awaited comeback

Hi everyone,

Greetings from Planet Illness. After a long silence, I am back… dunno why, but I’ve found the strenght to visit the realms of cyber space. I finally went to the dr. and he says I need antibiotics cuz I have amigdalitis and faringitis… I dunno when I’ll be able to talk again. The cold pills I tried before made me sleepy, which I guess explain my cyber absence. I havent felt like doing anything, not even think. Still, today I’m back.

What do I grace you with today? Well, this is a design draft my friend Brenny who lives in Cuba asked me for. Apparently her film team are in need of some “team t-shirts” or something like it. She asked me if I could help. After drafting in Illustrator for a couple of hours, this is my take on the problem she gave me. Basically the instructions were to try and unify the Cuban and Puerto Rican flags in one drawing. She also wanted the text: “from one bird, two wings” which is often used to refer to Cuba and Puerto Rico. This refers to how the islands are identical sisters. Perhaps twins?

Well, yes… It has been awhile. Last time we saw each other I was about to go on a roadtrip. After the roadtrip though, I continued to hang out and basically procrastinate. Now, you probably wont see me for two weeks, since I’ll be partying on a Cruise through the Bahamas. Out of the guilt I’m feeling for not designing, I bring you today a book cover. This book is not out yet, but it will be out in less than 10 years, so keep your panties up, and your pockets ready.

The technique? Illustrator… just basic design here. Although something different is I used a mask very early on to avoid the stress of things not matching. Actually, it wasnt a regular mask, just two squares, one inside the other, and then a pathfinder effect.

As u all know, Photoshop is my first love, and these are a couple of postcards I’ve done of the city of San Francisco. They were taken using my digital camera in the past couple of months.

Apple tracing

Well, this is it. I’m continuing playing with the alteration of corporate identities. In this case, I gave full attention to Apple, better known as the Apple-Pie, quite a popular spin-off in this island of ours. The same way iPod breeds new life to the years-old rotoscoping technique, i’m hoping to add a scrappy quality to the very well-known white ads of apple computers.

The new technique appreciated here is the Illustrator auto-tracing. I tend to do it on Flash, not on Illustrator, so it was nice to try something new. A friend of mine described this as “electric,” and I guess that’s a good word to label it.

I’ll include two images… because I said so.
