Gentle Hour: Another one for The Church Of Art

Was just working on some mixed media pieces for my room and thought of sharing. First one, Gentle Hour… children confronted with games, death, and broken paradigms. And yes, for those of you curious, those are brisca card decks transfixed in my bedroom wall. Very important representation of a Puerto Rican’s early years. Playing brisca at school, or at home with my grandfather. I always remember we had a card that was defective, because I “customized” it. Bad idea in retrospect.

The center piece photograph is taken by Corey Arnold in his Alaska essay. The photo contains children who hold in their arms a dead seagull, and they seem to try and help it. Could be interpreted as innocence’s initial taste of fear, the realization of danger, and how certain things -such as death- cannot be undone.

This next piece is All You’ll Ever Be. Or at least all I’ll ever be… act by act. Summarizing my life in a simple to-do-list might seem depressing… or it could also be a good way of mapping out the unknown in a box in my room for my own psychotic enjoyment. Another take on “bathroom” art. Why is it fun to place life’s acts out of context? Because context “borifies” life. So, lets decontextualize.

All you do in Life...
